Richard Dawson

Richard Dawson trained in 3D design and has worked in animation, television, product, architectural and toy design prior to setting up his studio workshop in 2007.

As an artist/maker Richard works in kinetic sculpture, craft and furniture design, alongside creating installations utilizing video and sound. Mainly working with timber and organic materials Richard is currently producing large-scale pieces including a series of benches made from locally reclaimed timber as well as working on a number of kinetic sculpture / mechanical installations.

Through an interest in recycling and sustainability in his work Richard says; “I want the pieces to maintain a link with their past usage and not be a final product. I use simple and sympathetic construction techniques in order that the materials can maintain their history and might have another life in the future.”

“Since moving to Mossley my sculptural work has developed as a response to the surrounding landscape. I am fascinated by the natural forms present and the changes that occur through the seasons and changing light.”

Richard is chairman of Woodend Artists and is currently organizing event for 2009 alongside preparing work for forthcoming exhibitions.
